Mono Lake Shoreline, CA

Mono Lake has several inlets (one of which appears in this image) but no outlets, so the lake loses water by evaporation only. This means that its mineral content is constantly increasing. The white deposits, called "tufa", were exposed when the lake level dropped due to water being diverted from the inlets by the city of Los Angeles for drinking water. A polarizing filter enhanced the contrast between the clouds and sky.
