Mass Ascension, International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque NM

It is hard to describe what it is like to be in the midst of a mass ascension of hundreds of colorful balloons. This photograph, taken shortly after sunrise, shows just a few of the balloons that were taking off. The rippling you see on some of the balloons on the left was caused by a the heat from balloonist on the ground firing his burner to warm it up; the flames are barely visible in the lower left.
